'Doctor Faustus' by Christopher Marlowe, first known to have been performed in 1594, is regarded as one of the most significant plays of the Elizabethan era and indeed in English literature, on a par even with the greatest works of Marlowe's contemporary William Shakespeare. The play today survives in two markedly different versions, known as the 'A' and 'B' texts. Remarkably, despite the acknowledged standing of the play, no complete audio version of either text has ever been produced or released. Until now. Lord Strange's Men are proud to present for the first time, both versions, unabridged and complete, as full cast audio dramas, directed by Toby Longworth.
Lord Strange's Men wish to dedicate this recording to the memory of Philip Webster (1963-2012)
